JET SETTER, Honolulu’s freshest music production company (who recently presented the English Beat live at SoHo Mixed Media Bar), presents power pop / garage punk musician NOBUNNY. Celebrating his 10th Anniversary in Hollywood this Easter, the atypical performer known as Nobunny will grace the ears of downtown Honolulu for the first time on Saturday, April 16 at NextDoor (43 N. Hotel Street).

“NoBunny is essentially a mindfuck multiplied by a clusterfuck…” – Detroit Weekly. Characterized by bizarre stage antics, provocative attire, which includes his infamous bunny mask and lack of clothing, the anonymous Nobunny brings a melodic, aggressive, power pop/garage rock sound comparable to The Ramones in their underwear.

‘First Blood,’ Nobunny’s second full-length album, was released in September of 2010 on Goner Records. His debut LP, ‘Love Visions,’ was released in 2008 on 1-2-3-4 GO! Records. Some of his better-known songs include “I Am A Girlfriend”, “Gone for Good” and “Chuck Berry Holiday.”

According to the LA Times, Nobunny “released a rip-roaring, good-times, party album that comes on like the illegitimate offspring of the Archies, Joey Ramone, Hasil Adkins and Kim Fowley”.

“The album is a primitive-but-beautiful little garage pop gem, bursting with delicious hooks and manic power.” – LA Examiner.
Don’t miss this novel appearance by Nobunny, performing with supporting local acts Red Rocket and Narwhal. It will surely be a Golden Egg in Honolulu’s hunt for entertainment!

Nobunny is an eclectic-flavored punk spectacle

Who is Nobunny?

Well, the mythology goes that he came out of a home in the middle of the desert outside of Tucson, Ariz., where Justin Champlin grew up listening to oldies radio and dreamed of being an Elvis impersonator.

“I started performing in front of the mirror doing Elvis covers,” Champlin said by phone Tuesday.

Champlin actually achieved that dream. He says it was OK at the time.

“I found it satisfying. It kept me afloat, helped pay my bills,” he said…

Nobunny Loves You

Nobunny / About 10 years ago on the outskirts of Tuscon, Ariz., Nobunny was born from the oppressive and sweltering desert heat. The nature of Nobunny remains somewhat mysterious–instead of picturing Nobunny as a character created by Justin Champlin, it’s easier to imagine Nobunny’s explosive appearance as something that arrived spontaneously from another world, the way a graboid erupts from the ground in Tremors.

But unlike a graboid, Nobunny is here to enliven the burgeoning garage rock scene with emblematic decadence, as exhibited by his lack of clothing on stage and his unkempt bunny mask…

There is NoBunny

By Tracy Chan

After we’d missed each other for days, I finally got to speak with Nobunny, aka Justin Champlin, on the phone at 12:30 a.m. Lucky that both of us are night owls (setting aside for a moment the relationship that owls usually have with bunnies), because the thoroughly interesting front-man of this catchy, scratchy garage pop/punk band is one interview that it would have been a shame to miss.

Here’s what Nobunny had to say about his notorious bunny identity, loco mocos and a 10th anniversary gig at the Playboy Mansion.

First time here? What do you think?

Yes, it’s my first time. I’m super stoked on it. Coming here, it almost felt like we needed a passport… while I’m on an island that is technically part of my home, it’s still very far from home, and very different…

Review: Nobunny at Nextdoor

Night Lights Weekend Wrap-up April 15-17

By: Tracy Chan

It seems that who we are is often disconnected to the face we present to the world; how we dress and how we appear to others. Just ask Nobunny about that. Although he claims he’s really kind of shy, his alter ego moonlights as a crazy, lewd, outrageous bunny that would give poor Peter Rabbit nightmares for life. The stage persona carries over to his band, too. Guitarist Jason “Elvis Christ,” pretty flashy while he’s up there, told me that he absolutely can’t watch video of himself performing…
